We really enjoy seeing people exercise their right to a sense of humour and beautify their surroundings. When whole neighbourhoods get involved, it creates a real sense of community!
Wheelie bins are a blank canvas for photos, artworks, logos, even quotes where you can make a very public statement about yourself as well as making an everyday object fun, bright and great to look at!

Owned by a couple of ‘sea changers,’ Wheeliedesigns.com is Queensland based in the tropical paradise of the Whitsundays.
Ruth Tomas - managing director
Ruth, a Scottish lass, met her husband while doing the usual backpacking trip to Australia. She left behind her burgeoning career as an artist with exhibitions in Glasgow, London and New York, her degree in design and printed textiles and relocated to Australia 12 years ago.
After a long stint in the tourism industry and as an interior merchandiser, Ruth knew she wanted to do something new with her art. But what form that would take didn’t become clear until recently, when the concept of Wheeliedesigns came together in one of those moments characterised by a lightbulb above the head!
Jo Sweeney - creative director
Jo has over 13 years experience in the design & signage industry with a diverse creative background, working in advertising agencies, design studios, printers and prepress houses.
In 2001 Jo moved to the Whitsundays and established her graphic design studio, Zest Design. Raised by a passionate gardener and garbologist Jo is very experienced at making bins beautiful!
“As an artist, I fell in love with Ruth's concept instantly. It’s difficult balancing work, family life and artistic expression - suddenly your most creative pursuit is a grade three science project!” says Jo.
